All wines are judged blind.

Results will be audited by certified auditors.

Judging takes place in Cape Town in September 2021



Praisy Dlamini is an accomplished winemaker from KwaZulu Natal. She studied at Elsenburg Agricultural College and went on to become the first woman with the Cape Winemakers Guild Protégé program in 2008. She has judged numerous wine competitions and will be joining the SA Sparkling Wine Championships judging panel for the 3rd year.

Michelle Smith has judged at the International Wine Challenge in London for several years.
She has also been on the judging panel for The Fairtrade Awards UK. A wine industry veteran, she worked with Sainsbury UK for nearly 20 years, where she was the senior wine buyer. More recently she headed  up the  wine department  at Pick n Pay South Africa. She holds a Diploma from Wset in wine and spirits, and has been a guest lecturer on the Wset Wine Diploma Course. This is Michelle’s first year on the SA Sparkling Championships judging panel.



Kelly-Marie obtained a BSc degree in Viticulture and Oenology at Stellenbosch University.  She went on to lecture at Elsenburg Agricultural College for 4 years.  Since then, she has gone on to become a winemaker at Distell and in July 2019 was appointed head white winemaker at Zonnebloem Wines. This is Kelly-Marie's third year on the panel.

With over 12 years experience in the international wine industry, Chiara has a particular interest in sparkling wines. Italian born, she has worked in New Zealand, South African and Italian vineyards. 2019 saw her judging at the AWC Vienna International Wine Challenge. This is Chiara’s first year on the SA Sparkling Wine Championships Competition Judging panel.
